At Ignite Dance Studio, our dress code is more than just a set of rules, it's a foundation for success. Proper attire ensures instructors can see body alignment for safety and technical precision, while a uniform look fosters confidence and studio unity. When we dress like dancers, we feel and perform our best.
General Studio Guidelines
- Arriving ready to dance with appropriate attire.
- Hair must be pulled back and securely off the face.
- No jewelry is to be worn during class for safety.
- Please ensure all dance shoes are clearly labeled.
- Students who do not meet dress code requirements may be asked to observe class or make necessary adjustments before participating.
Dress Code by Dance Style
A consistent dress code is essential for our dancers' safety and progress. It allows instructors to see body alignment clearly, ensures a professional atmosphere where dancers feel confident, and fosters a sense of studio unity. Following these simple guidelines helps every student thrive and excel in their training.
Preschool / Creative Movement
- Leotard (skirted or plain)
- Pink tights or Bare Legs
- Ballet slippers (pink) and tan tap shoes
Ballet
- Any color leotard
- Black or Pink transitional tights.
- Canvas ballet shoes
- Tight, secure bun
Jazz
- Dancers may wear any fitted dance attire that allows for freedom of movement and proper instruction.
- Barefeet
Tap
- Comfortable, fitted dancewear is encouraged.
- Clothing should allow instructors to clearly see body alignment and movement.
- Black Tap shoes are required.
Hip Hop
- Students should wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement and personal expression.
- Clothing should remain appropriate for class and permit safe participation.
- Sneakers are required
Contemporary / Lyrical
- Dancers may we attire that allows for expression and movement while maintaining a professional appearance.
- Barefeet or Dance Socks

Dress Code FAQs
What if my dancer forgets part of their dress code?
We understand that occasional mistakes happen. Dancers may still participate at the instructor’s discretion, but we ask families to make every effort to follow dress code guidelines.
What should my dancer do with their hair?
Hair should be securely pulled back and away from the face before class begins. Ballet students may be required to wear a bun.
Is jewelry allowed in class?
For safety reasons, we recommend removing jewelry before class. Small stud earrings are generally acceptable.
